The Complete Acupuncture System for the Cases That Test You Most
A 3-day clinical immersion taught by direct disciples of Professor Ming Qing Zhu — merging classical Chinese medicine with modern neuroscience to treat the conditions that resist everything else.

You Have the Training. But Some Cases Still Resist You.
You have been trained in Acupuncture. You know your points, your channels, your patterns. For many patients — the acute presentations, the everyday musculoskeletal complaints, the straightforward syndromes — your training serves you well. But there is a category of patient who resists your best efforts: the complex neurological case, the chronic condition that has outlasted every protocol you have tried, the patient who comes to you as a last resort. Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture was built specifically for those cases.
Complex Neurological Cases Need a Dedicated System
MS, Parkinson's and stroke sequelae sit outside what standard Acupuncture training prepares you for. ZSA is a complete, distinct system designed for exactly these presentations.
Chronic Cases That Have Failed Every Protocol
When a chronic pain patient has worked through everything you know, you need a different clinical framework to fall back on — one with its own zone-based anatomy and needling methodology.
A Felt Response Within the Session
ZSA's needling methodology is designed to work toward an observable response within the session — the kind of feedback that rebuilds a patient's confidence in Acupuncture.
These are exactly the situations ZSA was designed for.
A Fusion of Two Worlds — and Why That Makes It Clinically Distinct
ZSA is a complete, distinct system of Acupuncture — not additional points layered onto an existing approach, but a clinical discipline with its own theory, its own zone mapping and its own needling technique, with a clinical reach that extends far beyond what standard Acupuncture training equips you for. Crucially, ZSA uses the same TCM diagnostics you already learnt in school — so once you have reached your usual TCM diagnosis, arriving at a ZSA treatment is straightforward. Professor Ming Qing Zhu spent decades developing a system where the scalp becomes a therapeutic map of the entire body — not metaphorically, but neurologically, with zone selection aligned to cortical representation.
Classical Chinese Foundations
- Built on the core principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine — not borrowed from them
- Integrates meridian theory and Zang-Fu organ systems into a scalp-based clinical map
- Applies visceral manifestation theory to identify and treat the root of complex presentations
- Anchored in the dynamic balance of Yin-Yang and Qi-blood — as both diagnostic lens and treatment guide
Modern Scientific Integration
- Extends classical theory through the precision of Western medical sciences
- Integrates physiology, pathology, and anatomy into zone selection and needling strategy
- Scalp zones mapped directly onto the cranial bone system and cortical representation
ZSA is applied across neurology, pain management, musculoskeletal, internal medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, mental health and the complex cases that resist everything else.
Three Reasons ZSA Stands Apart
Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture is not a set of extra points. It is a distinct system with its own theoretical foundation, its own technique, and its own clinical logic.
A Complete System — Not a Technique
ZSA has its own theoretical framework, zone-based anatomy, and needling methodology. It stands alone as a unified clinical system that treats the body, mind, and spirit as one — grounded in classical Chinese medicine and validated by neuroscience.
- Rooted in classical TCM theory
- Scalp zones mapped to cortical representation
- Treats the whole body from needling the scalp alone
- Works alongside your existing practice
Precision Technique That Responds in Real Time
ZSA's needling methodology — Jin Qi, Chou Qi, and Dao Yin therapeutic movement — is applied within the treatment session itself.
- Jin Qi and Chou Qi stimulation methods
- Dao Yin integrated therapeutic movement
- Minimal needles, maximum precision
Practical Skills from Day One
With 40% hands-on practice daily, 16 live patient demonstrations across three days, and two master instructors at a 2:30 instructor-to-student ratio, you leave with immediate clinical protocols — not just conceptual understanding.
- ~40% hands-on practice every day
- 16 live patient demonstrations total
- Immediate Monday morning application
- No prior scalp Acupuncture experience required
Trained Directly by Professor Zhu. Now Training You.
Dr Ru Shan Shy is a PhD candidate at Yang-Ming University (Institute of Neuroscience) and holds a Bachelor of Medicine from China Medical University. A direct disciple of Professor Ming Qing Zhu and co-director of ZSA Taiwan, she combines hospital-level neurological clinical experience with decades of ZSA teaching — bringing rigorous academic training to serious neurological presentations including stroke rehabilitation, brain injury, tremors and complex pain.
Dr Sheng Chun Chang holds degrees in Pharmacy, Neuroscience and Chinese Medicine, is co-director of ZSA Taiwan, and is a former physician at Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital. Also a direct disciple of Professor Zhu, his rare combination of disciplines lets him translate fluidly between the biomedical mechanisms of Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture and its classical theoretical foundations.
Together they are two of the most experienced Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture educators in the world, having trained more than 2,000 Acupuncturists across Asia, America, Australia and Europe through 50+ intensive sessions.
- Dr Ru Shan Shy — PhD candidate (Yang-Ming University, Neuroscience); BMed (China Medical University)
- Dr Sheng Chun Chang — degrees in Pharmacy, Neuroscience & Chinese Medicine; former physician, Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital
- Both direct disciples of Professor Ming Qing Zhu & co-directors of ZSA Taiwan
- More than 2,000 Acupuncturists trained across four continents over 50+ intensive sessions
A System Designed for the Conditions That Test Every Acupuncturist
ZSA is not a specialty technique for a narrow range of conditions. It is a complete clinical framework that applies across neurology, musculoskeletal, internal medicine, pain management, gynaecology, and mental health.
Neurology
Stroke, paralysis, tremors, MS, Parkinson's, neuropathy, TBI, brain injury sequelae
Pain Management
Migraine, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain, cervicogenic headache
Musculoskeletal
Back and neck pain, joint disorders, sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, restricted mobility
Internal Medicine
Digestive disorders, respiratory conditions, cardiovascular presentations, autoimmune
Paediatrics
Developmental delays, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum, paediatric neurological conditions
Gynaecology
Fertility support, menstrual disorders, menopausal symptoms, endometriosis
Mental Health
Anxiety, depression, insomnia, PTSD, stress-related disorders, cognitive function
Particularly suited to immobile, wheelchair, or paediatric patients — ZSA's scalp-only needle placement eliminates the need for body repositioning during treatment.
For Acupuncturists Who Want More Than Another Set of Points
No prior scalp Acupuncture experience is required. A TCM background is helpful but not mandatory. ZSA is designed to integrate with — and enhance — any existing clinical practice.
No prerequisites required. A background in TCM or Acupuncture is helpful but not essential.
